The name “Langley London” in the Borough High Street goes as far back as 1920 when the business was originally set up as “Merchant Shippers” by a person known as Frederick Algernon Langley, known as “F.A.L.”, “Rockers” or more affectionately as “The Old Man”!

The business initially operated at 161 Borough High Street, before expanding to 163-167 Borough High Street. The business also operated from other properties in and around the Borough and elsewhere in London and the UK, as the business quickly became established for the importation of clay roof tiles, followed by industrial paviours and ceramic wall & floor tiles.

During the Second World War, the business diversified into electrical insulation products, especially for radio equipment making a significant contribution to the war effort. This business subsequently moved to Faraday Road at the Manor Royal Industrial Estate at Crawley, West Sussex and became a thriving business during the 1960’s and 1970’s, whilst business in the Borough High Street focussed on ceramic tiles, locker & cubicle systems, clay roof tiles and high performance roofing membranes. During this period, the business was largely transformed under the leadership of James Smith, often known as “JS” or the “Gov’nor” where the principles of high quality service and attention to detail was instilled throughout the Company, often adopting philosophies which are still relevant today.

During the 1980’s the business developed still further under the Chairmanship of George Blackstock and Kenneth Stirling Smith and subsequently Roger Stirling Smith, where group turnover reached c.£13.9m in 1989. The roofing business was eventually sold in 1999 and the ceramic tile business was sold in 2000. From this point Roger Smith set up Stirling Business Solutions as a business broker based in Birmingham and then later on, managed to acquire the Langley name again to set up Langley London Ltd, where the business is once again trading in the Borough High Street but as Business Brokers aiming to maximise shareholder value for business owners, who wish to sell their businesses.

Langley has developed a team of people who will provide the same principles of service and values appreciated by clients, which stood Langley in such good stead for the best part of a Century!
